Composting Toilet Guide is free to read. To keep it that way, we earn money in two ways: affiliate commissions on some of the products we link to, and sales of our own guides. This page explains how both work, so you always know when we have a financial interest in what you’re reading.
What an affiliate link is
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the seller pays us a small commission. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or not. Some brands give our readers a discount through these links, and when that’s the case we say so.

How we mark affiliate links
Product boxes that link to a store include a short note saying we may earn a commission. Articles that contain affiliate text links carry a note near the top. If you’re ever unsure whether a link is an affiliate link, assume it might be, and feel free to ask us.
How commissions affect our recommendations
We cover products we don’t earn anything from, including some of the best-known brands in this category, and we tell you when one of them is the better fit for your situation. We look for the complaints as well as the praise, and we check specs and prices against manufacturer sources before publishing them. Where our own sources disagree, we say so rather than picking the more flattering number.
That said, we are paid by some brands and not others, and you should weigh our recommendations with that in mind.
Our own guides
We also sell our own guides (DIY plans, installation, and maintenance), plus a free decision chart. When we recommend one of these, we’re recommending our own product, and we earn the full sale.
